Category: Layer dug in 2009
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: collapse,floor
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: 0.8m NS, 0.6m EW, thickness 30cm as of 2009-08-25
Discussion: JMR 28.9.2009
18349 consists of yellowish white plaster. İt is in the NE corner of space 310 where it forms a horizontal layer of plaster - ca 3-4cm thick - which is connected to the plaster of wall F.3313 in the north and the plaster of F.3315 in the east. These characteristics make it seem like a piece of plastered floor.
Further to the west and south there are other flat pieces of lumps of the same material floating in the room fill, but not horizontal. These pieces look like collapse fallen from above or broken off 18349.
As of 2009-08-25, not all of the unit had been exposed - next year , probably.
PTW 27.7.2011
This unit consists of a concentration of plasters in the northeast corner of Space 310/453, which connects or interfaces with wall F.3313 in the north and F.3315 in the east. After excavation of the plaster, the probability of my interpretation and its alternative are still not certain but it is worth noting that, concealed by the plaster layer (3-4cm) was a cluster of highly compact fill containing large secions of articulated vertebrae and goat horns, along with several medium-large pot sherds. This revelation lends some support to the notion that it may have been a floor/ tramplen surface covered by plaster, hence the compact nature of the fill below.
