Unit 18351
Category: Layer dug in 2009
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: Mudbrick and mortar in wall
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: This is the mortar that is part of the construction F.5074, the northern wall of space 343. Was due to be excavated this season, but has been postponed until the next.
DSE and NMR 05.08.2013:
The units designs for excavation purposes the bricks as well as the mortar layers of wall F.5074. The unit is separated from the northern wall 2429 through an interfill layer 31121. On the west is the arbitrary limit of the west section. It sits on the older wall F3006 that starts at about the same height as buttress F.3009. On the western part of the unit, the bricks and mortar layers are regular, on the east the disturbance through rodent holes is great and the bricks very deformed. Thus it is hard to establish the connection with wall 2425. There might be a plaster layer in between, indicating that 18351 is older than 16842. The bricks are sloping towards north, indicating a possible collapse towards wall 2429. Was wall 2429 built to prevent a further collapse or did F5074 collapse in the space of the interfill?
Excavated with trowel and pick. For further infos also see Unit 31179
