Unit 18542

Area: South
Interpretive Categories: collapsed floors
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: heterogeneous
Dimensions: 2.40m x 1.30m x 0.20mm (Thick)
Discussion: This appears to be a deposit of highly laminated thick coursley laid floors. The floor deposits consist of clay make up and occational plaster layers. These are sitting on top of a homogenous layer of clay and a very hard baked clay layer. These in turn sit on a highly fired yellow green, reduced clay with frequent wood impressions.
These are not wall plasters but clearly floor deposits collapseing into B79 burning its destruction by fire therefore it seems that these floor deposits must be associated with an upper story, higher than the existing walls.
The hard baked clay bellow the laminated floors represents an initial make up over timbers creating a floor surface.
The highly burnt and more fragmentary layer at the base of the deposit represents clay packed around the beams in the ceiling of space 134.
The relationship of these floors and wall (18529) is unclear as neither were fully excavated it is possible wall (18529) is infact associated with sat upon floors (18542)
