Unit 18638
Category: Layer dug in 2011
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: hearth surface,truncated floor
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: hearth; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: Two small patches of badly truncated hearth surface, the larger of which is next to the western edge of the feature, and the smaller is more central to the scorched area which clearly represents the extent of the original hearth extent.
These patches are overlying scorched understrat under the hearth, so this unit is all that is left surviving from the original hearth. Only enough deposit remained for archive and small flot sample.
Recognition: two patches of hard surface on top of scorched strat underlying hearth F3517
