Unit 19160
Category: Layer dug in 2016
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Plaster floor
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: raised area (platform); Material: white clay; Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation); Basal Spit: unpainted
Description: laminated layers also contain thin lenses of light orange sandy clay make-up material & mid gray clay/silt occupation layers
Discussion: Laminated floor deposit which consists of 2-3 plaster floors interspersed with thin make-up & occupation layers. Overlies & butts up against further floors 19156 which lie over surrounding kerb/edge of platform. It seems likely that 19160 represents replastering soon after this kerb was built where the central (presumably softer) deposits subsided slightly and so only the central section was replastered. 19160 was initially overdug and was removed with 19156 at northern end as well as across entire central area. Priority flotation sample was taken from the southern end around f.7421 (a shallow pit) & was taken to see if this pit might be related to flint or obsidian working.
Priority feedback: very low leveIs of all artifacts-including obsidian so does not seem to be file for obsidian/ flint working unless it was kept very clean.
Consistency: Compact
Colour: Light whitish grey
