Unit 19178
Category: Layer dug in 2016
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Infill/ Blocking
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: building; Material: re-used brick&mortar; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: Blocking of area between the two platforms (f. 7423 & 7425) in S end of Sp. 135. Seems more haphazard than other leveling in the area with building (plaster & mudbrick) debris mixed with occupation debris. Softer nature of the deposit has led to burrowing & this may account for the two X finds found within this deposit which were found together in a softer patch-possibly a burrow or disturbed from the plaster floor which this overlies.
This deposit & the modification of S end of sp.135 seem to have taken place to accommodate an oven f.7412 and probably also relate to the narrowing of adjacent doorway with U. 20091 in order to create the space for f.7412. However, the exact phasing/sequence of events is still unclear & may be easier to understand with further excavation.
