Unit 19681
Category: Layer dug in 2011
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Timber post
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: post
Discussion: Unit is a deposit of degraded wood charcoal bits loosely clustered in a small round post-like hole located near the N edge of bldg. 97 in a line running NS of about 7 box timber posts and smaller circular posts. This unit represents the remnants of a small circular post, worn away by erosion and post depositional features. The heavy deposists of charcoal represent the remains of a circular post which would have formed another large post in the sequence of posts forming the W partition wall. It appears as though there would have been clay surrounding the post to provide support and a base but it appears to have eroded away in most areas surrounding the charcoal.
