Unit 20081
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Eroded Hearth Floors
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: hearth; Material: dark grey clay; Deposition: multiple; Basal Spit: unpainted
Description: Unit is a patch of laminated extremely eroded hearth floors under U. 20075 on the E. edge of the hearth F. 7402. Very mixed in nature, with ash and charcoal inclusions, also heavily burned.
Discussion: This unit was recognized as U. 20075 was removed from the N and NE edge of the hearth. Under the superstructure this new unit appeared very loose, mixed, and heavily burned. Once all of U. 20075 was removed from this area, it was clear this unit is another layer of eroded hearth floors, remnant from the use, cleaning, and digging out of the hearth in antiquity. They appear to be floors that sit within the superstructure of the new hearth F. 7402.
