Description: Bricks of wall 85, description separated into 3 types of brick, A, B, and C. See sketch for brick locations 

 

Discussion: Bricks of wall 85, in 2 fabrics (see descriptions), the W end was removed first to facilitate excavation of burials in platform F86. The E end was removed some time later when deposit associated with it within 112 had been removed.
NB - fragment of red painted plaster came out of the dry sieve, was it really in a brick? perhaps from mortar (2008)

Colour: 7.5YR 4/4 brown / 10YR 5/4 yellowish brown / 10YR 6/4 lt yellowish brown 

Texture: clay loam / sandy clay loam / slightly sandy clay 

Bedding: massive / massive / massive 

Inclusions: 5% phytoliths, <2% charcoal fragments (small, 2mm) / 2% phytoliths, <2% charcoal fragments (small, 2mm) / <2% charcoal flecks (1-2mm); <2% small clay lumps; <2% small stones (2-5mm); <2% phytolith, but brick was clearly heavily vegetable tempered 

Post-depositional Features: fine roots / moderate fine roots / not evident 

Basal Boundary: sharp, smooth / sharp smooth / sharp, anthropogenic
