Discussion: The cut for this pit was identifiable as we dug unit 20134 - it was marked by a clearly circular deposit of greyish brown silty loam. The edges of the cut appeared clear, but as we proceeded by trowel, the soil ranged from loose to friable, including some denser patches and disturbance by animal burrows. We ended this unit when a patch of charcoal, as well as a humus-rich lamination of soil clearly extended beyond the definable edges of the pit. A large pot sherd with a complete base and a partially complete rim was recovered from this unit near the bottom. It is likely that this pit was filled somewhat gradually, explaining the soil laminations and low artifact density.
