Discussion: It was chronologically the last burnt layer in this structure which we describe as a fire place or hearth. There were no visible constructional walls. The area was limited by borders of layer of makeup below. The colour of the layer is not so intense as in the oven, which indicates that temperature here was relatively lower. 

 

Consistency: soft/friable 

Colour: dark grey, black 

Texture: clay loam 

Bedding: massive, mixed next to base

Basal Boundary: hard to distinguish because of it was mixed with layer of makeup below
