Unit 22013
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: plaster portion of wall/engaged pillar
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Material: plaster; Deposition: layered (wall plaster); Basal Spit: painted
Description: Plaster surface on burnt engaged pillar, some evidence within the collapse around the pillar indicates it was once decorated with moulded plaster. Some red paint.
Discussion: This unit was recognized as distinct from the mortar and brick wall behind it because of its plaster composition and the fact that it jutted out seperately from wall F.3095. We chose to excavate it in order to be able to access three units below it, which needed to be photographed from above. Some special characteristics were the red paint on the surface of the plaster and additional red paint found on a layer 3cm behind the surface red paint. These layers of paint were saved for archive. We scraped through the unit layer by layer to look for paint, and then removed the entire structure from the wall.
Unit consist of whatever is left over from the plaster that covers post F.6055. Stratigraphically floating. Not sent to flotation due to previous years conservation.
