Description: mortar within the wall F.3097

Discussion: Mortar (U.22040) was associated with bricks U.22039 and they altogether constituted the western wall (F.3097) of B.77, Sp.337. It was possible to record 10 layers of the mortar within the mentioned wall. Worth noticing is the fact that the prepared paste comprised of pure clay without temper or any inclusions. The latter eventually caused the appearance of relatively wide vertical cracks that emerged as a result of conflagration that occurred within the interior of the B.77. Hence, in the southern part of the wall which effected the most high temperature the mortar was compact and baked - like pottery. Described material used to join the bricks varied in their thickness reaching in average 4-5cm. Additionally, within the whole structure of the wall there were no irregularities recorded considering the alignment of the mortar.
