Discussion: Following the removal of wall F7289 it was noted that the wall sat on a foundation of compact stone, brick, burnt brick and clay. 22758 was opened to excavate this foundation layer. Post excavation it was seen to carry on towards centre of floor layer u22765, it was then decided that excavation would halt and new unit assigned 22767 for further excavation. 

Consistency: Firm, compact 

Colour: Dark grey, orange and brown 

Texture: High proportions of clay, stone, ash and mortar 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: Brick, mortar, burnt brick and clay and stone 

Post-depositional Features: Disturbance by animals and some organic staining 

Basal Boundary: Constructional
