Unit 23212
Category: Layer dug in 2017
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Oven base
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: oven; Material: baked; Deposition: multiple
Discussion: This unit belongs to the latest phase of the oven F8044, exposed after remove the remains of the platform F8041. This oven had been very truncated for other features mostly burials but also for a retrieval post pit.
This unit was only preserved in the east part of the feature, extends 0.48 x 0.87 x 0.03 m and belongs to the base floor of the latest phase of this fire installation. The floor was orange, pretty thin and with evident traces that had been burnt, but what was interesting is that within this base were lots of plaster remains mixed. The plaster seems to have also traces of burn. For this reason we assigned this unit as a priority, because one of the hypothesis is that can be related with the process of burn lime, for the construction of the building 17. Is clear that this oven not belongs to any phase of that building, and that was placed in what seems to be an open area on which the building 17 was build.
With the same unit we remove also the remains of the make-up related with that base.
Directly below this unit we documented a clay ball, stone and groundstone (X1 to X3) that we think that can be foundation depositions for the latest phase of this fire installation.
