Description: U23402 is the second latest base of Oven F.2195, found in the W-SW corner of Building 52, space 576
Discussion: U23402 is the second latest base of Oven F2195; this unit number includes also the make up of this base. Both base and make up were very thin, and well merged together; they were excavated very easily together, coming out in consistently sized pieces. The base was thin, of mud plaster; of brown orange colour because of the heat. The packing of this base was a thin sandy layer, of dark brown and orange colour, with a few scattered thin charcoal inclusions.

Colour: Top: dark brown and orange; Bottom: dark brown, black, dark orange
Texture: Top: sandy clay; Bottom:sand
Bedding: Compound parallel layers (between top and bottom); Top: massive; Bottom:unoriented
Inclusions: Minor inclusions of charcoal, especially the packing of this base.
Post-depositional Features: This unit was truncated by Wall F.2183,
Basal Boundary: Constructional, levelled, abrupt, prominent, smooth, level and flat.
