Unit 23436
Category: Layer dug in 2017
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Floor packing
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: raised area (platform); Material: pise-like; Deposition: heterogeneous
Description: U23436 represents the topmost layer identified on platform F7638 in exc.season-2017, and the layer directly above the addition - extension of Platform F7637 towards the East and the SE, in the corner between Walls F2012 and F2013, (i.e. U23444). The eastern edge of this extension is adjacent to the western edge of "Step-Basin" F7642.
Discussion: This is the top-most layer of Platform F7637 in exc.season-2017. It is therefore the same as unexcavated unit U31416 of season 2015. This unit was excavated in the E and SE by VK and in the W and SW, by MZB.
In the East and SE, this unit was a packing layer, evidently applied in order to raise the level of the area East of Platfrom F7637 up to the level of this platform. It was sandy and mudbricky in the North; more plastery in the south with inclusions of pieces of mortar and chunks of plaster as infills here and there. (04.07.2017: VK)
Consistency: Friable in the North; compact in the South
Colour: Mixed: white and yellow
Texture: Sand
Bedding: Layered in the North; unoriented in the South
Inclusions: 25% small pieces of plaster; 20% small pieces of mudbrick; 5% charcoal; other aggregates
Post-depositional Features: Compaction by structures above
Basal Boundary: Constructional, very sharp, distinct, irregular at places and level at others, uneven
