Unit 23765
Category: Cluster dug in 2017
Area: TPC
Interpretive Categories: cluster
Data Category Information: Location: building; Material: mix; Deposition: primary deposition
Discussion: It was a cluster in the pit F. 8687 located in the south-western part of Trench 4. It was a very large cluster which began discernible already in lowest section of infills directly above (U23919, U23936, U23788). The cluster consisted of more than 150 objects, mostly worked stones and stone tools. In addition, it should be noted that there was organic material in this cluster, in particular a piece of leather placed under the quern. Other elements in the cluster comprised: a wooden bowl located on the top of the assemblage, next to the quern as well as elements of everyday life stuff such as a bone spoon, needle, points, obsidian leaf blade (spearhead), stone balls, large freshwater shell, and something very rare imported from the Mediteranean coast - oyster shell. Another important element of this cluster was a large quern made of andesite in the initial processing phase. This cluster was placed in a uniform fill of a large pit (U.23959). Among the tools comprising the cluster were distinctive artifacts made of hard metamorphic rock used to polishing stone axes and bone tools. It should be noted also that some of the artefacts found in this cluster has partly burned surface, while the fill of this pit did not carry such traces except for its eastern part.
