Discussion: Layer of apparent base of oven, very hard light grey surface, cracked. 2 pebbles left lying on the surface, presumably heat effect. Also below surface signs of heating, brown colour very similar in appearance to "outer lining" of the oven.
Recognition: Recognised on excavation of N half of (2852) immediately obvious on excavation, (2865) forming clear crust of relatively hard material distinct from consistency of (2852).
Definition: Well defined.
Execution: Trowel, 1/2 sectioned initially.
Condition: Dry. Dry/sunny.
Consistency: firm/very hard surface
Colour: surface: 10 YR 6/2 light brownish grey (dry), below surface, with increasing depth: 7 YR 4/3 brown (dry) to 10 YR 4/3 dark yellowish brown
Texture: fine sandy silt
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: n/a
Post-depositional Features: cracking through surface
Basal Boundary: gradual/faint/smooth/flat
