Unit 30260
Category: Skeleton dug in 2013
Area: TPC
Interpretive Categories: dog's skeleton
Data Category Information: none
Description: This is a dog's skeleton in anatomical position indicating intentional burial.
Discussion: This is a dog's skeleton found in the N part of trench 2. It is lying in an anatomical position and it is almost complete, missing pelvis, femur and a skull. It is extremely well preserved. It is lying on its right side and the head is oriented towards the west. At the beginning a cut was visible, indicating this might have been an intentional burial.
It is possible that the skull was destroyed during the archaeological exploration. A dog's skull and a mandible was found in layer u.20293 and was recorded as belonging to that unit.
Worth mentioning are traces of salt crystals (post-depositional) on some of the bones.
