Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: occupation; Deposition: single

Discussion: This unit had a different color than its surrounding floor area (from a light brown to a grey and white plaster color of the unit undernearth) and a close look at the relationships between the various floor layers showed this unit to be a seperate layer of floor on top of another more dirty floor seen and uncovered already near the hearth. This unit below the one excavated still covers some of the rim of the hearth and to remove that layer, this unit 30938 had to be removed first. It is possible that this small floor section acted as a patch to repair or refill or clean sections of the floor near the hearth and in the busiest industrial part of the house. This unit was hand troweled and too small to have any other sample than the archive sample. This layer of floor was not dirty like the floor units below or surrounding it. This unit was thicker towards its northern section near the edge of the bench as well as the northwestern corner and less thick along its southern border.
