Interpretive Categories: mortar for buttress

Discussion: As a mortar layer it was easily distinguishable from the surroundig bricks. The intention of the whole feature is unclear, it is a massive buttress which might have been supporting an upper floor or the walls. Between the mortar and the brick (U.31110) there were several phytolith inclusions some of them were sampled in the brick unit. Except for the outside of the buttress, the mortar is in most cases not a layer between the bricks but seems to be dispersed rather randomly.
