Unit 31199
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: room fill
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: 31199 is composed of the room fill below the plaster surface 16932 in building 106. Since it seems to be a "sunken floor", the top levels of the unit were sloping down towards a central point in the room (connected with the plaster on top of buttress f3301, u16999). Its northern limits seem to be the buttress f3301, and maybe a wall in between the buttress and the east wall f3314. The nearest fill is limited by f3314 to the east, f3362 to the south and f3358 to the west.
The fill is very heterogeneous with non-earth materials in it. The finds were concentrated especially in the SW corner and near the eastern wall. A special find was a pair of goat horns, placed in the SW corner, but seemingly "just like this" without… [Editor's note: I cannot read the last word of the previous sentence. But from what I discussed with NMR, I believe they mean this: The goat horns were placed in the corner without additional cutting or other special preparations for their insertion. TMK 27.8.2013.]
To the SE corner, we found three potentially collapsed mudbricks and plaster/mortar, which were assigned separate unit numbers (31230 and 31221, respectively).
When removing u31199, it became clear that the eastern portion of the southern wall (f3362) was slumped. The plaster of this wall is brownish-pink in color. The NW corner contained a fragment of a white plaster floor, but the rest was not present. For more info on the multiplaster structure, see 16932, 31142, 31172…
