Unit 31586
Category: Layer dug in 2016
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: lower infill within cut U.31580
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: pit; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: The unit No 31586 had been allocated to record sediments accumulated in lower segment of the cut U.31580 of pit (F.7724) placed in North-central part of B.132. The presented deposit laid directly below U.31581which was excavated as the upper sediment. One may state that the both units (31581 and 31586) represented two sequences of filling-process that occurred after taking out a wooden post, which was set on the spot in constructional phase of the mentioned building. Most plausibly these two deposits were loaded as one event however evidenced diversity (in the texture and consistency) was caused by employing different kind of material to seal the post-retrieval pit. Unit 31586 comprised mostly of fragmented elements like: plaster, mortar and bricks. However, at the lover part of the sediment (31586) there were bigger pieces of mentioned above inclusions recorded.
Worth noticing is that the flotation sample had been collected from the bottom of the hole, and from the gathered sediment the find X2 (worked bone) had been extracted in order to accentuate its significant role as a kind of special deposit left behind after accomplishing the digging activities in the past. Small number of fragmented finds imply they might have been loaded back accidentally with the nearby soil-material during the filling process rather than they were kind of basal deposit set in purpose within the pit (except for those enumerated as X finds).
Nevertheless, it should be taken into further consideration and analytical comparison few obsidian flakes registered within the unit 31586 which seem to be the part of the same amass of artefacts that were found in the pit and assigned under separate Units: U.31581 (upper infill) U. 31585 (cluster of artefacts) just differently stratified
Consistency: friable
Colour: multicoloured depending on the elevation and accumulated deposits within unit: mid-grey - in upper segmernt, mid-orange & mid-white - in lower segment
Texture: sandy-silt, clay, silty-clay
Bedding: compound layered
Inclusions: 15% - varied size of fraqgments of plaster, 10% - fragments of orange clay (mortar), very occasional charcoals
Post-depositional Features:
Basal Boundary: distinct - visible difference between the sediment sat in the cut 31580 and surrounding deposits that had been truncated by the cut.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
X Finds Material: nothing recorded
Finds Material Stored: nothing recorded
