Unit 32412
Category: Layer dug in 2016
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Activity layer
Data Category Information: Description: fire spots (non-structured)
Discussion: Concentration of ashes and smashed bones sited very close to the hearth F7817. This layer was extended around 0.20 m (N-S) and 17 cm (E-W). Was grey, soft and very thin, with charcoal intrusions and smashed animal bones all over the place. This ashes concentration was laying on the floor plaster U32404, and for their position, we think as a first interpetation, that can be related with the cleaning or working process of the hearth,.
The lab results from this priority unit said that there was a low-density wood fuel waste, comprises mostly of oak wood. No remarkable botanical stuff remains, and possibly no plant material related to this specific activity spot. From the animal bones they are too crushed and heavily processed, seems to be sheep, and mostly cancellous bones (spongy inside) rather than cortical fragments.
We want to notice that the U32444 from the pit F7840 documented below the floor layer U32404 had almost the same extension and position that this unit. For us was clear that there was at least one layer of floors between this two units, but for the characteristics of both and mostly for the position, we thing that both can be related and connected in some way, even that we could not manage to see the relation in the field. So, maybe this layer can be and activity layer but mostly related with the abandon pit than with the hearth.
