Unit description: This unit (from the layer above the floor in sp 154, near the fire installation) has 4 samples; 3, 4, 5, and 8. Sample 3 has the smallest fragment size; nothing is over 1 cm. There are 10 pieces, none of which are identifiable, with one digested and two burnt at low temperature. They are not fresh-looking, and have generally been worn to the same basic shape and size (like little pellets). The unit does not seem mixed; all pieces seem to have been subjected to the same pre-depositional conditions and events. Sample 4 has 14 pieces; mostly 1 cm long, but with one at 2 cm and one at 3 cm. One of these is the mandible of microfauna, possibly a modern rodent etc. There is one digested piece and two burnt at low temperature. Three fragments of tooth enamel are present, one of which is burnt. The pieces seem less eroded and weathered than those of sample 3; the edges are sharper and there is more variation in shape and size between the pieces (they are not all little pellets). Sample 5 has 15 pieces, all of which are 1 cm except a long bone splinter at 3cm. One piece is digested, and none are burnt. This sample is also less weathered and eroded than sample 3. Sample 8 has 8 pieces; one is a small, juvenile distal calcaneus, 3 cm long, with skinning/dismemberment marks. There is also a tooth fragment. The other pieces are varied in size and shape. One is burnt. Last Number =F19.
