Unit 3595
Category: layer dug in 1999
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: packing below floor
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: This layer was the fill or packing mat. just on top of the lower floor surface. This lower floor was already exposed in the N area of the unit so I followed from that edge to the S. removing the packing mat. The area to the S. was more thick & compact with some plaster & bldg. fragments. It was in this southern area where a large piece of charcoal was found (and sampled S.6) & also a bonering frg. (x3). The floor under this packing mat. is same in N. & S. area of the unit - it is only the packing mat. which seems different. Part of the floor surface below the packing was demaged in the northern part of the unit since the floor was sloping up to the N. The floor approaches the platform but doesn't continue up to over the edge.
NOTE: X1 was examined in finds room and is actually clay - was put onto dry sieve ??? as instructed by MS.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.

Unit description: X3 is a bone ring fragment. No material from the dry sieve. Sample 2 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. A moderate size sample of mostly little crumbles, with a few bigger pieces (up to 6 cm). A fair amount of low temperature burning (ca. 30%). Some digestion. Surface condition variable. Highly fragmented, few diagnostics. A bit of bird and several fish pieces. Looks like fill.
