Dimensions: 0.67 m E-W; 0.54 m N-S; 0.08 m thick 

 

Discussion: Mainly consisting of yellowish brown silty clay, but a thin band of plaster at the top of the unit (see sketch) and a thicker band of plaster towards the base (up to 0.04 m thick). Also, small to large fragments of plaster through unit; also some darker patches of material (10 YR 5/3), appears similar to make up deposits I've excavated elsewhere. 

 

Recognition: Recognised during cleaning after excavation of overlying layers, contrasts with dark grey material below. 

Definition: Clear, defined to W by wall. 

Execution: Trowel, handpick. 

Condition: Dry to slightly moist. Surface; smooth to wavy, overall inclined slightly to E. 

Consistency: friable 

Colour: 10 YR 5/4 yellowish brown; also 10 YR 6/4 light yellowish brown (dry/slightly moist) 

Texture: silty clay 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: occ. 2-5% charcoal flecks + small frags, occ. >2% obsidian frags, occ. >2% small bone frags; 

Post-depositional Features: some root activity; 5-10% salt flecks, towards basal boundary 

Basal Boundary: abrupt/prominent/smooth to wavy
