Description: Plaster on north wall 64. Not excavated in 1998 but unit number allocated for plaster samples.
Plaster originally covered the entire wall face, but much had fallen prior to controlled removal. The plaster consisted of numerous tiny layers, each representing a separate coating. On some layers, flecks of black, orange and red paint were observed.
Excavated by PB 1999
Discussion: The covering of the wall with successive layers of plaster suggests that the internal space was utilized for some time, especially if the re-plastering was only carried out maybe once or twice a year. Although paint flecks were noticed on some of the plaster layers in section, it appears that not every layer was decorated, and furthermore the different colours of paint may suggest different patterns. The internal decoration of the space therefore varied between painted and unpainted, and with possibly different types of decoration.
