Discussion: This material seems to be part of the same support of the walls in this corner of the room as units (3296) and (3298). They are on the same floor, parts of plaster on the floor preserved under them. Under (3298) there was only an obsidian point, but under (3810) there was a whole collection of artefacts; horncore of sheep with clay ball (looks deliberately laid out), some stones etc (see graph no 98-623). Is this room associated with sheep in some way? A horncore on the N wall was also from sheep.

The support of the wall seems contemporary with the blocking of the entrance of the room. If that is so, the walls were maybe reinforced as the room was sealed off. But there might have been some activity in the room after it was closed off but before it was infilled.

Recognition: Different from infill in room, not part of proper wall.

Definition: Defined by infill and face of wall.

Execution: Excavated with trowel, small pick axe.

Condition: Moist.

Consistency: firm to strong

Colour: 10 YR 5/4 yellowish brown

Texture: mixed clay to silty clay

Bedding: compound layers

Inclusions: charcoal, bits of hard brown clay

Post-depositional Features: terrible animal holes, salts at edges

Basal Boundary: on floor, sloping down to S

Finds Room Information:

All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.

Unit description: This unit contains a pair of sheep horn cores, attached to frontlet (X2) which was lying on floor(?) near 'repair' wall in Space 156 (with a clay ball found between the two horn cores). The horn cores were attached, but broken on lifting; lying anterior face up, tips slightly broken. X1 is a horn core likely to be from a sheep (it is highly fragmented); many frags of this came out in flotation sample, and have been recorded together with X1. X6 and X7 are small cattle-sized ribs, in very good condition and preserved to a length of c. 25 cm long. X8 is a sheep/goat scapula (10 cm long frag). In addition, there are a few fragments from the dry sieve: an 03-size thoracic vert, some fragments of horn core, an 07 pelvis frag, and undiagostics. Flotation sample 2 (>4mm) has been recorded: contains 03 size skull fragments, long bone fragments, ribs and lots of small (1 cm) undiagnostics; there are also two cattle-size long bone shaft fragments, and one hare-size. A couple of pieces burnt. It might be possible that the sheep horn cores (not X1 of course), scapula and vertebra are from one individual, but this is untestable. One possible rodent bone removed.
