Dimensions: length 55 cm; depth 35 cm = approx. 0.9 cm (total) 

 

Discussion: Seventh layer of floor lenses in platform F239.

This unit was made up of at least 8 lenses. Some of these were discontinuous, patchy with rough, pitted surfaces. Most of the disturbance occurred in the SE area of excavation. Some could not be seen in section. They were roughly as follows:

1) clayey silt layer 7.5 YR 5/6, no inclusions, labelled 9 on plan 98-639
2) very thin dark, greasy layer, 7.5 YR 4/2 brown, ashy, number 10 on plan
3) pinkish brown layer, few charcoal flecks
4) dark greasy layer
5) red brown layer, poss. 11 on plan, with salts
6) pinky brown layer, only in NW corner, psso. 12 on plan
7) plaster layer,
8) then brownish plaster layer, 10 YR 5/4 yellowish brown, 13 on plan 

 

Recognition: Floor of platform. Colour/texture changes. 

Definition: Defined by limit of excavation. 

Execution: Leaf trowel and patience. 

Condition: Dry. 

Consistency: compact but friable 

Colour: see below 

Texture: clayey silt, mainly 'trample' lenses more ashy, greasy 

Bedding: compound layered 

Inclusions: see below 

Post-depositional Features: animal hole in SE corner
