Unit 4433
Category: layer dug in 1999
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: infill between walls
Data Category Information: Location: between walls; Deposition: heterogeneous
Dimensions: 6.70m + E-W; up to 0.26m wide (N-S); 0.21m +deep (not fully excavated)
Discussion: Infill between walls - at first thought that against 4432 - on partial excavation however appears that against the wall under 4432 - & maybe only fractionally lipping against 4432. Also on further excavation have realised that 4433 extends further to the E. than originally thought and is definitely between the walls of B.2 ( F.79) & B.6. - appears to consist of broken up/mixed wall material (grey brick/brown mortar?) backfilled (deliberately?) into space between walls - doesn't appear to be accidental backfill - not loose - unless it is material that fell between walls when wall(s) above, or the top of these same wall(s) were being demolished.
Only partially excavated - taken only to a level just below that of wall to N. - to prevent erosion. And still don't know how far extends to west.
Recognition: Recognised when planning (4432) that seemed to be 2 infill deposits.
Definition: Clearly defined - lying between 2 walls. Originally thought that against (4432) at E. end - but on excavation proved to be extending further E. & still against wall on S. side. Uncertain about how far extends to west, (not fully excavated).

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.

Unit description: Flot sample 2, >4mm, 100% - recorded for diagnostics only Between wall fill beneath (?) 4465. it is a small unit with colour ranging from light to medium brown, but overall very light. All the identifiable bones are sheep/goat and most of the fragments are from the 03 size category. There is very little burning, but what there is, is burnt at high temperatures. The flotation sample is light to medium brown with relatively large fragments, not rolled or reworked. There is no digestion and about 5% burning. it is consistent with the dry sieved material. All bones are 03 size. Last number = 33Figurine Records: No GroundStone Records: No Heavy Residue Records: No Microfaunal Records: No
