Unit 4466
Category: layer dug in 1999
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: floor layers
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: mixed; Deposition: composite (floor/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation)
Dimensions: 0.81m N-S; 0.12m; 0.13m ( max. depth )
Discussion: (4466) is a small remnant of floor layers, visible to the N., of the S. section of truncated wall - F.447. It consists of a thicker, white plaster layer, overlying thinner occupation/plaster? surfaces. The thicker layer is clearly defined, but the thinner layers - only in places. Also - it's not possible to see a consistent pattern of stratigraphy - definition often fades. Max. no. of visible thinner layers - six. Variable in depth from 2mm - 15mm max. ( uppermost thin layer ). Colour variations - v. thin off-white plaster, to orangey light brown, to light to mid brown silts. (4466) was attached to the W. face of F.447.
COMPOUND FLOOR LAYERS.
Recognition: thick white plaster floor layer above thinner multi-coloured occupation ? layers
Definition: clearly defined compound layers, below wall plaster - above 'make-up'
Execution: sectioned, troweled
Condition: v. slightly moist
Consistency: firm
Colour: white plaster overlying thin layers of varying colour - off-white, light to mid brown
Texture: plaster- compact silt ? v.low % of fine sand
Bedding: compound layered
Inclusions: charcoal flecks <2%
Post-depositional Features: v.occ. small root activity. trunc. to N.
Basal Boundary: constructional, sharp, prominent, smooth.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
