Area: South

Interpretive Categories: Floor layers.

Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: white clay; Deposition: composite (floor/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation)

Dimensions: 1.69m. e-w x 0.69m. x 0.04m. max. depth.

Discussion: (4500) consists of three (clearly visible) floor layers, but from the section to the south, there appears to be two identical trample/occupation layers, overlying plaster floors. The plaster floors (max. depth: 5mm) only survive in 'patches', but are frequent, and mostly easy to follow throughout the whole context.
NB. The discrepancy in levels at eastern limits of (4500) and (4501) above i.e. level 2 (4501) is lower than level 3 (4500), represents a digging error. The stratigraphy is correct.

NB. Sample 3 was taken from a remnant of (4500), surviving on the S. face of wall F.482. It was a higher quality sample, than that taken for archive.

Consistency: Soft to firm. Slightly friable under pressure.

Colour: Very pale brown plaster / grayish mid. to dark brown.

Texture: Clayey silt (approx.30/70). clayey silt (approx. 30/70) lime plaster.

Bedding: Compound layered.

Inclusions: Very occ. charcoal flecks <1%. Occ. white siliceous plant remains. Very occ. small bone and obsidian.

Post-depositional Features: Truncated at south by Mellart excavations.

Basal Boundary: Abrupt to gradual. Distinct to faint. Smooth to slightly uneven. (Floor layers overlying further floor layers).
