Discussion: Area of very truncated material contained within oval cut [4929] and therefore appearing to be the remains of an earlier fire installation feature cut by F537, only the lower fill and cut of which survive. 

 

Recognition: Clear area of burnt, reddened and blackened material 

Definition: Clear boundaries with surrounding deposits 

Execution: Trowel from edges 

Condition: Dry, friable and heavily truncated 

Consistency: Friable 

Colour: Dark reddish brown, grey and black 

Texture: Silty clay loam 

Bedding: Compound layered 

Inclusions: <10% charcoal flecks 

Post-depositional Features: Occasional root and insect disturbance 

Basal Boundary: Clear, smooth, anthropic
