The unit has been decided on the basis of colour and we arguing that it was the part of the fire instalation -as a rim. The idea is that the hearth was constantly cleaned by replstering its egdes. Anyways, it is very clear that this beige in colour layer represents the rim, or the very edge of the hearth.
