Unit 8201
Category: layer dug in 2001
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: floor packing
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: Removal of packing layer in SE quadrant of ex space S.86 in floor F.606 (central). This is a proper construction rabble/ midden/ packing clay packing. The floor was prepared by darker more ashy and friable material in which stones, clayballs and larger chunks of burnt material were set and then more clayey and "cleaner" packing material with smaller chunks came over to hold it together. The clay used went from regular gray to an interestingly bright orange one in patches. Underneath this unit is proper floor. Sample (S6) is base of previous fire installation F.616 tha was cut all the way to this unit.
