Discussion: Unit consists of 3-5 cms of heterogeneous packing material above floor 8 (below gray brown packing 8257 below floor 7). The packing was very thick in some areas -e.g. the northern half of the unit and thin in other areas ( e.g. southern area, especially near lip pf platform). The soil was primarily orangish-brown, interspersed with patches of grey soil. Immediately above the floor layer ( whitish yellowish floor) there was a grey-brown layer. This was taken as a separate flotation sample (S.9). The two other flotation sample (S5 and S6) were separated from each other simply to control for the size of the sample. By the corner of the packing, there was a redeposited oven-like feature. At first we thought it might be an oven so we excavated outward from the center. After we defined its edges by excavating the rest of the packing in the unit it became apparent that this was not an in situ oven, but an oven that was redeposited as packing. Unfortunatly when this material was removed, the thin floor layer stuck to the oven-like packing. In these central areas the floor was no longer present- the floor when cleared for the photos therefore (looked " dirty" or brownish in these areas. The western border of the platform appears to be running under the lip of the floor in space 606? Immediately adjacent to the eastern platform. (It resembles the southern edge of the northwest platform). The northern and southern edges of the eastern platform. Have obvious lips going upward; the eastern edge is the eastern wall. There is furrows or rut which runs between the eastern wall and the eastern part of the platform. No evidence of burial cuts was apparent when the floor was cleared. The same cracks which were apparent on floor 7 are visible in floor 8.
2nd sample 7 ICP, S8 phosphate, sample 7 taken on soil immediately above the white floor (like 3rd flotation sample S9).
Architectural sample S10; NE corner of eastern platform had a block which consisted of several floor layers. This was removed for M. Ashley in one block. The x,y,z coordinates corresponded to the bottom of the block at floor 8 of the platform.
