Unit 8645
Category: layer dug in 2003
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: brick
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: Taken as a separate unit of bricks. Two bottom courses - go with middeny mortar.
Bricks 77-80 cm long, 40 cm wide and 6-7 cm thick. End bricks to the north and to the south are longer - ca. 86-90 cm.
The bricks we have lifted as three separate samples so far. We will take the bottom course of bricks as a separate unit too. Still it seems are made of the same very sandy clay, all of them well tempered, more or less uniform in dimensions. Altogether I think that the bricks were the same but as we take down course by course, the lower ones are moister, the bottom bricks being the moistest.
