| Mound: West | Previous names: Trench 4 | | Location: West Mound towards east edge
In 2006 a team from SUNY Buffalo & Free Berlin University resumed excavations on the West Mound following the results of the 1998 – 2003 excavations. The Trench numbers between the campaigns continue sequentially but have been differentiated by the change from Roman numerals to Western Arabic. Located on the eastern edge of the West Mound Trench 5 was opened in 2006 with the aim of excavating a step trench through the complete sequence down to lake marl. The aim is to identify the duration and period of the West Mound at this location and to ascertain a transition or overlap with the Neolithic East Mound sequence.
