Recorded in section this appears to be a niche in wall F.445, the southern wall of Building 7 / space 176. 0.84m wide it is plastered on both its western and eastern sides. It was eventually blocked - F.456. This is apparently a level VIII feature linking mellaarts shrine 8 to his house 3 which lies to the south and which is shown on his plans.
AK 24.07.2012 - excavation The recognized gap in the courses of the bricks within wall [ F.445] appeared to be a niche rather than the previously assumed crawl-hole. It was cut in the mentioned wall truncating also the inter-wall infill u 20212. Therefore it may be stated that the niche F.454 was later than wall F445 as well as the accumulated deposit between the walls [F.445 and 7052]. |
