| | Area: TPC | | | | Dug in Year: 2013 | | Feature Type: pit | | Feature Subtype: | | | | Location: E edge of Trench 3, N half | | | | Grid X: 955.34 Grid Y: 954.69 | | | | The pit was identified in plan by its differing greyish brown color from the surrounding orange soil, and evident truncation of walls f. 7176, 7171, and 3952. The pit is large and extends beyond the E edge of the trench. The bottom of the pit was identified by a mud-brick wall running along the W half of the pit. Though the E half of the pit did not have a change in soil, the existence of the wall suggested that a new depositional context had been reached-- possibly room fill rather than pit fill. The pit also has in the N part some collapsed brick rubble as well as a fire spot marked with a characteristic burn. The pit was excavated using trowel, pick, and brush. The pit is extremely deep, and seems to be post-Neolithic in date, judging solely by the contents of the fill.
