Pit 7561 has been identified as a circular-shaped layer cutting wall 7560 and the infill layers U.21193 and 21195. The infill layer stood out from the the sourrounding infill layer because of its darker colour and softer consistency.
Once we excavated the pit, we realized that the pit also cut the infill of the foundation trench F.7563 (U.21184). The pit belongs to a later phase than the previously mentioned units and features.
Due to its roughly circular shape, vertical sides and flat bottom, we interpreted it as a post/hole pit. The pit-s diametre, however (72 cm), make it possible to interpret it as a storage pit as well. |
