Discussion: Much of this fill is plaster, with much semi-layering. Possibly plaster was prepared here? This fill cleans off at the base at the north end of the east side on to a browny clayey fill distinct from the plastery one. During excavation, Cicek was clear that this was the back of the fill, although it was also clear to me that it was not the back of the cut since this should have been midden. Consequently the fill was treated as ending in line with the wall, while the brown fill at the back belonged presumably to an earlier cut. Shahina and I disagree about this. She regards the brown clay fill as all part of the same fill in (1079) and (1095) , and sees only a single cut which descends smoothly, truncates a wall and then drops sharply, all filled with mixed floor and building debris. Will we ever know?
