Description: fill of post retrieval pit against east wall of S112 FAST TRACK 

 

Discussion: the fill mainly consisted of plaster and clay was firm and difficult to distinguish from the surrounding matrix. Some charcoal was also included.
The fill contained an cluster of clay balls and stones - unit 10805.
Although initially two cuts with two fills were distinguished later on they were taken together. Cut 10803/10808. Fill 10802/10807. 

 

Recognition: from the 1997 section to the south; in cut 10803/10808 

Definition: diffuse as was cut 

Execution: mattock throwel 

Condition: upper levels dry lower level moist 

Consistency: compact 

Colour: grey dark brown 

Texture: clay and plaster 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: charcoal and plaster fragments 

Post-depositional Features:  

Basal Boundary: diffuse
