Description: FAST TRACK 

 

Discussion: This unit is virtually identical in composition to unit 11015 to the west. It further defined the mudbrick wall to the west, and revealed a reddish stain in the NE quadrant.

FAST TRACK 

 

Recognition: This layer was previously identified in 2003 surface scrape, as part of passage running N/S in space 232; continuation of 11015 and 11016 to West 

Definition: Unit is defined by mudbrick walls to N and S of unit, unexcavated portion to E of unit, and units 11015 and 11016 to W of unit 

Execution: Maddock, hoe, shovel, and trowel to remove and clear matrix; brush for features 

Condition: Dry and windy -- soil damp at lower level portion in a minor way 

Consistency: Soil firm to strong/compact, with pockets of friable (burrows, ashy midden feature) 

Colour: Light beige, grayish 

Texture: Silty clay loam 

Bedding: Primarily massive, with some mottling of clayey-er inclusions 

Inclusions: Obsidian, bone, clay ball fragment, worked stone, mudbrick, burned clay 

Post-depositional Features: Some bioturbation due to root systems and animal burrows 

Basal Boundary: Gradual transition to a smooth base of slightly darker soil with high salt inclusion (visible flecks)
