Unit 11345
Category: Cut dug in 2004
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Foundation cut
Data Category Information: Description: foundation trench
Discussion: Fairly well defined N/S cut into midden layers of midden visible in sides, only base appears slightly diffuse and irregular. Cut only excavated to south of F1512/1515 and to west of wall F826.
Filled with two fills - (11346) - redeposited/backfilled midden material. Also poss to level prior to wall. (11344) upper orange packing fill. Both fills deposited after wall constructed, or at least first few courses constructed.
Foundation cut for east wall of building 42/
Added to 2004 Discussion:
fairly regular and well defined cutö western edge/base slightly overcut in 2004. Concave profilei deeper to north, pos to provide level footing in sling midden deposits which all slow to south. Norther end terminates and is slightly truncated by erosion-- suggests only this wall required foundatoin trench? But other walls eroded away/ truncated so do not know for sure.
(11363) footing plank placed in [11345] and wall constructed on that, cut then backfilled with mixture of mdiden material and mortar. Some brick material also. Prob first few courses constructed before backfillingi then rest of wall completed.
Only example of this construction method at catal (with plank foundation trenches noted elsewhere on mound.)
V approximated. T.C.C. 20-07-09.
Recognition: Cut into the midden (11347) noted by mixed material within, differs from midden layers
Definition: Runs N/S parallel and either side of F826

Condition: Dry
Shape: Linear
Sides: concave, moderate
Base Break: concave, moderate to shallow
Base: flat, slightly uneven, slopes to south
Orientation: N/S
