Discussion: This unit represents the mortar material between the mud bricks of wall F.2427. In some parts the mortar was poured or smeared on the previously plastered surface to be bricked, in some parts this was not done. The two (or three in the western row) remaining brick layers had a thick, ca 2cm, layer of mortar between them. This made removing the bricks easy because the mortar allowed them to be separated layer by layer. Unfortunately no vertical mortar lines were identified, which may be due to the fact that the bricks were formed like slabs in their final positions. In some parts it does seem that the gaps between such slabs were filled with mortar, although this is by no means regular nor can be traced at certain intervals. A grond stone was located in the lowest layer of mortar, closely above the plastered transitional layer.
