Unit 14219
Category: Layer dug in 2007
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: Bone deposit
Data Category Information: Location: feature
Discussion: Deposit seems to be fairly shallow, upon excavation. Ist spread is essentially as defined before excavation, which was a surprise as it sits in a reasonably clear burial cut - what now seems to be happening is that a small deposit of human bones is sitting on top of the actual burial in the cut; this deposit seems to bear no relation to the actual grave underneath. Bones belonging to this layer may also have been mixed in to (14217) and (14221), above and below.
Correction following full excavation - deposit seems to be backfill? Or cut into an otherwise empty grave.
Recognition: Presence of bones
Definition: relatively poor
Execution: trowel and brush
Condition: hot, dry
Consistency: Quite loose
Colour: grey with a brownish hue
Texture: sandy silt
Bedding: mixed (root interference)
Inclusions: bone - human and animal, ceramics, v. infrequent obsidian
Post-depositional Features: Root and animal mixing
Basal Boundary: Indistinct, undefined, vague! Upon excavation, became a shallow deposit of human bones with a limit clearly defined by the bones
