Unit 14441
Category: Skeleton dug in 2008
Area: North
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: All X finds recorded on fill sheet 14429.
Flexed Neolithic adult burial in the NW platform (F.1651) of Building 49. The skeleton is complete and in fair condition. The skeleton is probably a female young adult. A necklace of small black beads (X3) plus one larger black bead (X2) was found in the neck region. A yellow residue was noted lining the grave pit uner the torso and pelvic region. This residue was sampled (S8). A black residue was found in the thorax region (S7) both inside and outside the thorax. Phytoliths were found on the skull (S ) and possibly the left femur (S ). An infant skeleton (14440) was located to the north of 14441 next to the right and left knees of this adult. They may have been buried at the same time although the infant skeleton is incomplete. A green stone axe (X1) was found next to the infant skeleton (to the east). Bones from other individuals were found at the base of 14441 an adult and a juvenile. Another juvenile partial skeleton (14438) is in the NW sidewall from an earlier time period. This skeleton was truncated for the burial of 14441.
A layer of plaster was present on the lower legs, right hand and both feet. The right knee and left lower arm also had plaster on them. The plaster is white with a brown layer under it against the bones. Some bones had the plaster on both the upper and lower surfaces.
14/09/09 Michele Massa: the greenstone axe found in the fill has been x-finded and assigned to three different units (14440, 14441 and 14429). The crate register shows that the actual objects is stored as 14429.x1, so the others have been deleted
